Kaieteur News has now been able to speak with Dr. Paloma Mohamed who has provided evidence of the following:
1. Her role as Artistic Director was not as Chief Executive Officer who had responsibility for approving and allocating all finances. Questions about inflations and overpayments cannot be linked to her and the audit does not infer such wrongdoing on her part.
2. The role of the Artistic Director included all functioning and oversight for media including advertising. As such she did not act outside her area of responsibility by recommending payments for media houses whose invoices were presented for advertising done during Carifesta X to be approved by the Chief Executive Officer, Permanent Secretary and Minister.
3. She has annually, both verbally and in writing on more than 10 occasions, requested monies owed to the Theatre Guild for Carifesta X during the past six years. She has been joined by members of the Theatre Guild Board and Board of Trustees in the effort to recover the money.
4. While she was not responsible for the ultimate decision-making regarding payments, she fought for invoices to artists for Carifesta X to be settled within six months of the festival though her role as Artistic Director had already ended.
Kaieteur News did not intend to link Dr. Mohamed to findings of the audit which are not ascribed to her. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and are happy that she has provided comment and evidence which clarifies earlier unverified statements published by this paper.
