West Coast teams to invade Linden Sunday
The Linden 10/10 organized Softball Cricket tournament by the Linden Softball Cricket League in collaboration with the Guyana Softball League will see semifinals in both the male and female categories will be completed this weekend.
Three teams Speightland Challengers XI, Bad Boys XI, and Kairuni will compete in the male category to meet Hillfoot Vipers in the final, whilst All Star conquerors, Sunrise and Aoraima, will contest in the female category.
The drawing of the playoffs to see the team pairings will be held Saturday 28th November, 2015 at the Bayroc Ground. The male teams will contest their semifinals and finals on Saturday. The females will contest the semifinals and finals on Sunday.
The male teams are evenly matched and are expected to compete fiercely to become the champion of Linden. Speightland Challengers possess a good all round unit and has a good captain who leads by example in Dennis D’Amill. Bad Boys may have the crowd in its corner as they have a mixture of some of the more experience players in their lineup. Players of the caliber of Khaimraj Chand, who incidentally is their skipper, possess a good head on his shoulders and can also change the game with his batting and bowling by his aggressive style.
The Kairuni boys are known for their flamboyant play and ability to upset their more experienced opponents and have shown they enjoy the 10/10 version as they have done really well at this and can stake a claim as being the most comfortable team in this format. Their team are packed with all-rounders who can be relied upon to bat anywhere in the order. Those very players can also be devastating with the ball and have shown and have displayed their acrobatic nature in creating pressure on their opponents in the field.
In the female category, Aoraima seems to have the edge and in Captain Angela Grimmond and they possess one of the most complete players, she has led her team thus far by sheer weight of runs and accurate bowling.
The All Star Conquerors have been busy so far throughout the downtime leading up to this stage and will be hoping to get past their opponents by this. The Sunrise girls will be looking for revenge as they were stretched to their limit in the preliminary rounds and on both occasions but were successful against the All-Star Conquerors but lost against the Aoraima girls.
Meanwhile, on Sunday three teams in Wolf Warriors, Cross Breed XI and Brickery All Stars will be playing against three select Linden teams in a bid to bring the Lindeners on par with the other tournament leaders in the 10/10 format.
These matches are part of the Guyana Softball League plans to ensure the quality of teams coming out of areas are of the same as the other areas. The West Coast teams in Wolf ‘s Warriors and Cross Breed XI are presently unbeaten in the Mobile Wizard 10/10 and the Brickery All Stars are having a good run so far as they have won their last 2 matches on the trot.
