The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF)/Tradewind Tankers international festival commenced yesterday at the National Gymnasium with Yelyco of Suriname and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) female teams battling
in the opening fixture.
The other local teams taking part are a Berbice club and Demerara club, while male teams from Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname are also included.
In an invited comment, president of the GVF John Flores said they are pleased to host the tournament once again and expressed gratitude to the sponsors. He added that the competition will give the locals much needed exposure since the teams from Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago play a high level of volleyball. He informed that Trinidad and Tobago have fielded a youth team which is preparing for their Confederations Cup.
Tradewind Tankers representative Reggie Bhagwandin said they are pleased to be associated with the tournament and pledged their continued support. He noted that this is the fifth year they are on board with the competition and he is happy with the level of play. Action continues at 12:00 hrs today.
