The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday sponsored the airline ticket for the National U23 and Alpha United’s Captain Daniel Wilson, to attend a tryout with Major League Soccer (MLS) club Sporting Kansas City.
The 22 year-old Wilson will join Slingerz FC and Dominican International Julian Wade at the three day tryout in an attempt to become the second Guyanese (after Gregory Richardson) to play in the MLS.
Sporting Kansas City is an American professional soccer club based in Kansas City, Missouri, playing its home games in Kansas City, Kansas. The club competes in the Western Conference of the MLS and is one of the ten charter teams having competed in the league since 1996.
The team was founded by Lamar Hunt in 1995. Since moving across the state line, they have been the only major professional sports league franchise to play their home games in Kansas.
Canadian Football Hall of Famer Alex Bunbury selected the two based on the talent exhibited thus far in their young careers.
Sporting KC has invited them to their ‘invite only’ three (3) day trials from November 21st -23rd.
Wilson and Wade were scheduled to arrive in Kansas City today, Friday Nov 20, and if successful they will receive pre-contracts and then sign their official contracts during the MLS transfer window in January.
The move is seen as a in lifetime opportunity that is expected to open doors for other Guyanese footballers in the future.
This tryout for Sporting FC was made possible by Guyana Born Canadian Football Hall of Famer Alex Bunbury, his 442 Management Agency (USA), Junior Forrester and Next Generation Entertainment (Guyana).
