Lodge and Wortmanville communities undergoing clean up exercises

Yesterday, groups of residents in Wortmanville and Lodge from selected committees armed themselves with cutlasses, shovels, rakes and gloves as part of the recently commenced Mayor and City Council’s 50 communities cleanup exercises project.
According to those involved, they are being financed by City Hall to the tune of $1.5 M per block for groups of at least 14 persons employed of the community, by a designated community head.
The initial three-week exercise includes participants being paid on average $70,000 per person to execute the cleaning of parapets, clearing of drains and alleyways etc and features a clause of three months of maintenance after the works are completed.
Yesterday the teams were seen at work on Haley and Hadfield Street Wortmanville and on Chapel Street, Lodge.
Many of those involved in the exercise expressed the hope that they will be able to retain further contracts as they see the City Hall initiative as an employment opportunity and they called on residents to desist to adopt a culture of discarding their waste in the proper manner.
