St. Pius, West Ruimveldt to play for third place
Just as was promised, the semi-finals of this year’s Courts Pee Wee Schools
Football Competition produced two sizzling encounters that went right down to the wire with Enterprise and St. Angela’s the two teams standing to contest the final on Tuesday, at the Banks DIH ground, Thirst Park.
Over at the No.1 pitch, last year’s beaten finalist St. Pius, who lost in a penalty shootout to Stella Maris saw their hopes of meeting the final dissipate in similar fashion after going down to Enterprise 3-1 on penalty kicks folowing a nil-all conclusion after regular and extra times.
In the other game, St. Angela’s who’re yet to concede a goal in this year’s competition squeezed past a luckless West Ruimveldt by a 1-0 margin courtesy of a defence error.
Played before a fair-sized audience that iincluded Courts Marketing Manager Pernell Cummings, parents and fans, the young ballweavers produces a fine exhibition of football as they battled each other for a place in the final.
The Enterprise and St. Pius encounter though it failed to produce any goals saw end to end action with many chances create, but stout defending and magnificent goalkeeping kept the contest on a knife’s edge.
No team was able to score in open play and it took spot kicks to determine the winner.
The West Ruimveldt versus St. Angela’s game was a match of pure quality and it took a thunderbolt from long range by Keyon Douglas that foorced an attempted clearance which skimmed off the head of the defender to beat a surprised goalkeeper in the 38th minute of play.
St. Angela’s held on grimly to book their place in the final against Enterprise.
