The 5th Brusches’ Classic Basketball championships continue this evening when Georgetown clubs, Ravens face Plaisance Guardians in one game at 7.00pm and Colts and Pacesetters square off in the second at 9.00pm at the Burnham Court.
The four City based teams contesting this year’s tournament in one half are battling for a place in the semifinals following the opening ten point wins by Half Mile Bulls 68-58 over Victory Valley Royals and Amelia’s Ward Jets 57-47 against Retrieve Raiders last Saturday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
Tonight’s double header promises to be one where you either win or go home in this eight team knockout tournament as they will join the Jets who play Bulls on Friday in one semifinal and the other pits the winners tonight against each other at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court on Friday night.
Last Saturday the first game saw Bulls nudging ahead at the end of the first quarter 14-13 but the Royals recovered to lead at half time 32-23 and then 46-42 at the end of the third quarter. But the Bulls sparked by the tiny guard Keifer Tappin who finished with 15 points and youth national Dennis Niles with a top score of 16 eventually romped home handsomely by ten pints with a comfortable 68-58 score-line.
Terron Welch had nine points and Eon Reddock and Michael Turner contributed eight and seven points respectively for the winners. Harold Adams had a game high 22 points for the Royals as their next best score came from Chris Williams with 10 and Trevor profit with eight.
In the second game the jets enjoyed a 15-12 first quarter advantage but were behind 22-23 at half time before taking the lead 38-30 when the third quarter ended and stayed ahead to win 57-47 against the raiders. The scoring for the Jets was shouldered by guest player Akeem Kanhai with 13, Amaniki Archibald with 10 and Omally Sampson eight.
For the losers former national Neil Marks had 16 points and veteran Abdulla Hamid 11.
