The occupants of a Lusignan Railway Embankment household had their breakfast rudely disrupted when a “flying” car scaled their fence and landed on top of a shed that sheltered their mini bus early yesterday morning.
The driver of the flying car was attempting to getaway after hitting down a 70-year old pedestrian at La Bonne Intention about four miles away.
The driver of the car Dalon Amsterdam of Friendship, East Coast Demerara was admitted a patient at the GPHC, the same institution that admitted his 70 year old victim Rampersaud Bhagoor, who is said to be in a critical condition.
According to eye witnesses, after hitting Bhagoor, Amsterdam sped away in such haste, that he could not control his vehicle which first hit some debris on the parapet at Lusignan before flying into the air, over a fence and then landing on top of a wooden shed.
“I now coming out fuh open me gate when dat car fly through deh and dive down pon dah shed. De man fly up in de air and land down in me yard,” said the home owner who is popularly known as ‘Chico’.
Despite the damage caused to the structure and his car as well as the mini bus that was under the shed, Amsterdam miraculously escaped serious injury.
“When we pull he out, he been breathing, dat was de fuss thing we check. Ah dat air bag save he. He had on seat belt. Awe nah smell no alcohol, all awe do was just hustle fuh get he out,” a resident of the area told Kaieteur News.
Meanwhile 10 hours later, a few miles away, the occupants of another house on the East Demerara Railway Embankment were lucky to escape injury when the structure was felled to the ground by another out of control car.
This incident occurred on the Coldingen railway embankment just after 18:00 hours also yesterday.
A woman who was in the house at the time told the media that she was combing her daughter’s hair when she noticed that items in the house began falling.
She said that she ran outside where she noticed that the house had fallen on top of a car.
Eye witnesses said that the driver, who was alone in the car, was speeding and lost control and crashed into the yard, severing at least two of the house’s pillars. Fortunately he too escaped unhurt.
