The Board’s President, Drubahadur; Secretary, Anand Sanasie; Competitions Chairman, Colin Europe; and Territorial Developmental Officer, Colin Stuart, explained to the Minister the structure of their upcoming National Secondary School League. Stuart outlined the aims, expectations and benefits of the League. Minister Henry noted that it is an interesting and favorable mission and she is in support of it.
The League will be officially launched shortly where over 150 secondary schools across the country will be participating within their Zones, then the Zones will compete against each other, followed by the Intermediate Districts contest, and finally the Country Districts will clash to determine an overall winner. The competition also has a champion school pathway that would see the national champion fully sponsored by the GCB, participating in the annual Sir Garfield Sobers Secondary Schools Cricket Competition in Barbados.
Secretary Sanasie, who is also a Director of WICB, informed the Minister about the matches slated for Guyana next year during the West Indies tri-nation series with Australia and South Africa. The gathering discussed the benefits to both the government and the GCB by hosting the matches. Sanasie presented a copy of the Economic Impact Assessment from the England Tour of West Indies earlier this year to the minister.
President Drubahadur thanked Minister Henry for meeting with GCB, adding that the Board has compact and well structured programmes to be rolled out. And with the support of her Ministry and other relevant authorities, these undertakings would be successful.
