Alpha beat Buxton in lone game
By Franklin Wilson
After five exciting rounds of the inaugural Stag Elite League (SEL) which showcases eight of the top clubs in Guyana, the first real unfortunate experience was encountered last evening at the Guyana Defence Force ground, Camp Ayanganna.
Slingerz FC were slated to play the feature game against the Guyana Defence Force and it was a game that the fans were looking forward to. Unfortunately, the West Demerara based Slingerz refused to take the field as a result of a letter they received from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) stating that four of their starters were ineligible to play.
The GFF in its missive to the club contends that the Keith James, Jolanshoy McDowall and Winslow McDowall from St. Vincent & The Grenadines and Guyanese Domini Garnett have not yet received International Transfer Certificates (ITC) from their originating clubs.
The GFF instructed that the players would not be able to take the field of play until a thorough investigation in the matter is done and then reviewed by the GFF’s Normalisation Committee in accordance with the Disciplinary Code of FIFA.
The federation has given Slingerz until Friday of this week to submit a detailed report on the transfer application process of the players at the centre of this issue.
However, General Manager of Slingerz FC, Colin Aaron is contending that Slingerz FC has no ineligible players on its list of registered players.
Aaron notes that the ITC request for the above mentioned players was confirmed by all stakeholders within the FIFA (TMS) Transfer Matching System in the stipulated GFF Transfer Open Window Period.
Kaieteur Sport understands that at the time the transactions were to be done and finalized in keeping with the TMS requirements, the GFF was encountering challenges with its internet connection which made it difficult to accept the ITC requests.
Efforts were even made to have GFF TMS Manager Mr. Linden France have internet access elsewhere but this too did not work out which has now resulted in this matter reaching this juncture.
Slingerz FC was directed by the GFF to play last night’s game against the GDF minus the contentious players despite a request by the club to reschedule the match pending a meeting to clear up the issue.
This request did not find favour with the governing body thus Slingerz’ decision not to play citing unfair treatment. It is understood that a meeting will take place today at the GFF to sort out the matter amicably.
Fans that had already paid last evening were given tickets to attend this evening’s encounter free of cost or any other match of their choice.
In the lone match that was played, Alpha United made light work of Buxton United handing them their fifth loss in six matches. Delon Lanferman slammed in his second double of the league with goals either side of play.
His first came in the 21st minute and the sealer came in the penultimate minute of regulation time. Alpha now take over the lead on the points table with 12 points, one more than Pele who will be in action tonight against Monedderlust in the opening game at 18:00hrs at the GFC ground.
Georgetown Football Club will then take centre stage against Fruta Conquerors in the feature attraction.
