The authorities are going to make another large drug bust. The increased vigilance of the foreign authorities coupled with information out of the country will fuel these busts.
But there are always enterprising people. One man is going to be caught with a quantity of cocaine hidden in a suitcase that had nothing more than the cocaine. He will not be a mad man, just a man whose system failed.

The dry spell will spawn fires. Another fire will strike in the east destroying a dwelling house. Fantastic community response will save adjoining buildings.
The cause of the fire would be carelessness but the homeowners would not want to accept that fact.

The police are going to get a surprise. A simple stop would uncover a plot that would have netted the criminals a lot of money. The number of guns would not be staggering but the people would be among those whom the police had long wanted to catch in a crime.
