A number of men were subsequently arrested and placed on $50,000 bail on Thursday on an allegation of rape leveled by a teenager.
The teenager’s great uncle who was also implicated in the rape allegation was however released on station bail, Friday morning.
According to reports, the teenager’s father lodged the complaint with the police at the Anna Regina Police Station after which eight men whom the teenager named were arrested and questioned before being released on bail.
The teenager told the police that she was raped since last year December. The police have since taken statements from the suspects as investigations into the serious allegations are engaging members of the police force.
The teenager apparently lives in a home at Westbury in which some 20 people live.
Persons from the Westbury community are imploring members of the Welfare and Education departments to visit the community and to engage in discussions with especially the parents of those children who do not attend school for whatever reasons.
