Sand Hills Primary School emerged the champions of the Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket 2015 Competition in the Berbice River when they defeated Calcuni by 10 runs in the final match.
Sand Hills batted first and made 98 runs, and bowled out Calcuni for 88 runs to take top honours in the 2015 Scotiabank Kiddy Progression 1 Cricket Competition for Primary schools in the Berbice River.
The competition started with Sand Hills defeating De Veldt Primary by 61 runs in the first round. Sand Hills took first strike and made 139 runs, then bowled out De Veldt Primary for a meager 78 runs.
In the second first round match, Calcuni Primary defeated Wiruni Primary by four runs, in a nail-biting encounter. Batting first Calcuni made 85 runs and Wiruni replied with 81 runs, narrowly missing out on victory.
The third round encounter saw Sand Hill batting first and scoring 96 before dismissing Wiruni for 75. Sand Hills won the match by 21 runs.
In addition to the matches played, five persons in the Berbice River were able to participate in an arranged Pre-Level 1 Coaching Programme due to the kind compliments of Scotia bank. These persons were, the Head Mistress of Wiruni Primary, Sheldon Bovelle, Travis Moore, Leypert King and Jason Denhart.
Meanwhile, the first round of the North Georgetown Zone bowled off with Green Acres getting the better of St. Angela’s Primary at the Racquet Centre ground. A brilliant 61 from Shawn Thompson led Green Acres to victory over St. Angela’s.
After winning the toss, Green Acres chose to bat first and compiled 119/6 off their allotted 14 overs. Omesh Balgobin supported Thompson with 27. Bowling for St. Angela’s Primary, L. Arthur and T. Thomas accounted for two wickets each.
In reply, St Angela’s reached 108/8 when their 14 overs expired. Ariana Laundry top-scored with 23, while T. Thomas and J. Griffith chipped in with 12 and 11 respectively. Jadyan Dowlin was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.
Green Acres has progressed to the second round of preliminary matches.
