Over 26 caregivers drawn from nine Daycare Centres and Playgroups were the beneficiaries of the expertise of specialist facilitators during a one-day Multi Task Workshop organized by Kiskadee Kids Daycare and Playgroup on Saturday, at the entity’s location on Queen Street, Kitty.
The event, which is staged annually, sought to upgrade the skills and techniques of caregivers attached to the institutions, while also providing them with new techniques to deal with the task of caring for babies and toddlers.
The participants that attended the workshop represented host Kiskadee Kids, Blue Sackie, Bumble Bee, Green Acres, Sherjoy, Precious Jewels, Sure Foundation, Stabroek News and Margaret Arthur Rose Playgroups and they listened to presentations from facilitators such as Bonita Harris, Patricia Wintz, Paulette Bollers, Concheeta Gray and Lauvern Turne.
Harris told Kaieteur News that her presentation centered on Love and Abuse, explaining that it is the absence of certain training that often gives rise to abuse and lack of love.
Wintz, who lectures at the University of Guyana, spoke of early childhood and its implications, while Bollers, Director of the Municipal Day Care gave a lengthy presentation on caring for babies and toddlers and the requirements and skills needed to prove effective among other related areas of proficiency.
Gray and Turne of the Child Protection Agency made remarks pertaining to the requirements and responsibilities of Daycare facilities, informing of the laws that govern them and the repercussions for any signs of abuse or lack of proper conditions to facilitate such an undertaking.
Also present was Principal of Green Acres School Marilyn Green and she delivered the Charge, while Principal of Kiskadee Kids Desiree Albert welcomed the participants.
In attendance as well was former Miss Guyana Universe Olive Gopaul, who it was disclosed is set to venture into the realm of opening a Daycare and Playgroup Centre.
