Dr. Johan Da Silva, Azaad Hassan, Harold Hopkinson and Roberto Tewari emerged winners of last Sunday’s IPSC / Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) Level 1 match sponsored by Secure Innovation and Concepts Inc. which took place at the Timehri Ranges, Yarrowkabra, Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Dr. Da Silva won the Standard (high end guns with modifications) category, Hassan topped the field in the Production (normal guns) class; Hopkinson was the best in the Super Senior (Over 60) category, while Tewari was the top Rookie, a category that was introduced by Harold ‘Topgun’ Hopkinson, Regional Director for the International Practical Shooting Federation, IPSC and organiser of the shoot.
Ray Beharry had to settle for the second place to Da Silva with David Dharry, Gordon Richards and Lawrence Layne placing 3rd to 5th. Shawn Smith was second best to Hassan, while Tewari won ahead of Jermaine Softley, Romesh Latchana, Tracey Vieira and Peter Kathanan in that order.
Thirty (30) persons attended and participated in the shoot which also saw four of the competitors being disqualified.
Prior to Sunday’s shoot, many of the competitors participated in the first ever International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) / Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) Level 1, IPSC Range Officers (RO) Seminar which was held at the Regency Suites, Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
Hopkinson who also facilitated that seminar informed that it was a resounding success with the participants performing well on Sunday as they exhibited what was learnt in the classroom.
Another match will be contested in November according to Hopkinson where overseas competitors would be participating in about eight (8) to twelve (12) stages of competition.
Suriname will host an Open competition on October 23-24; Guyana is likely to be represented.
