The visit to Canada by President David Granger and First Lady, Sandra Granger, was described as engaging and interactive. According to Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, the President reported that the Guyanese Diaspora in Canada have a great interest in what is happening back home.
Informing the media of Cabinet deliberations this week, Harmon said, “So enthused was the President that he has already instructed Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin, that he must assemble a team of Members of Cabinet, and others within the Ministry, to go back to Canada, and to revisit and hold discussions with those who had interactions with President Granger, along the line of returning and investing in their country.”
The President and First Lady were in Toronto, Canada, for a three-day visit over the weekend. He used the occasion to repeat calls for Guyanese to return and invest their skills and capital to help move Guyana forward.
It was reported, too, that, that President Granger entertained discussions regarding investment proposals, from a group of business persons, who are serious and optimistic about investing in Guyana’s Hinterland and other areas in the country.
The President and First Lady were accompanied by Minister of Social Cohesion, Amna Ally. The three were able to offer insights on “the huge eco-tourism potential in Guyana’s Hinterland, just waiting to be exploited.”
Together they expounded the idea that it is preferable for Guyanese in the Diaspora, to return and work to develop an excellent eco-tourism product.
