The residents or Buxton-Friendship and surrounding communities are expected to benefit from the Buxton Youth Development Initiative, a brainchild of First Lady Sandra Granger. The programme is designed to provide youths with training for the world of work.
This initiative, which was officially launched yesterday at the Friendship Primary School, is expected to provide young adults with training in the areas of Information Communication Technology (ICT), literacy and numeracy, entrepreneurship and sexual reproductive health.
The First Lady made it clear that the youths ought to take full advantage of this opportunity in order to better their lives. “We cannot build a strong nation unless our communities are strong.”
At the end of the programme, participants will be awarded with a certificate, which is accredited by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).
It is understood that the Buxton Youth Development Initiative is a pilot project that is being spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady. Similar projects will also be rolled out in other communities across Guyana.
Previous First Ladies have been known for pilot projects, in particular former First Lady Varshnie Singh, who piloted a project known as the Kids First Fund, which helped underprivileged children in need of monetary support for surgeries.
Former First Lady Deolatchmee Ramotar conducted several workshops and outreach programmes during her tenure.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
