The man charged with killing, 22 year-old East Ruimveldt resident, Senesie Lewis, was yesterday arraigned before a city Magistrate facing a murder charge.
In a packed courtroom, Keiron Taylor, 24 of Charlestown, Georgetown was not required to plead to the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan. On September 4, last, at Albouystown, Georgetown, Taylor allegedly murdered Lewis.
The accused only spoke when requested to provide the court with his basic information. He told the Magistrate that he works at Junior Pipes and Tanks.
Taylor, who was unrepresented by an attorney, was remanded to prison until October 1, when the matter comes up for report. This adjourned date was given after Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones requested additional time to have the police file completed.
Jones informed the court that statements in the matter are still outstanding. The prosecutor added that he is still awaiting further advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Family members and friends of the accused turned up in their numbers at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to witness the brief morning court hearing. As Taylor was being escorted to the chute, they hurriedly walked down the court stairs to get another glimpse of the alleged killer.
When a police officer opened the door for Taylor to exit, he turned his back upon seeing reporters’ cameras. His relatives shouted, “Hide yuh face, Hide yuh face! We know is not you do it”.
Some of them even broke down in tears.
Taylor complied with their orders and kept his head bent all the way into the prisoners’ holding area.
According to reports, Senesie Lewis of Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt, was riddled with bullets by armed gunmen outside of the Ghetto Flex night spot at the corner of Albouys and James Streets, Albouystown, last Friday morning.
Lewis was reportedly shot nine times about the body by the gunmen who had approached on foot, and escaped immediately after the execution in a waiting car that was parked on Sussex Street.
It was reported that Lewis’s riddled body was left lying in the street for more than two hours before it was removed by police and undertakers. Three other persons were injured in the shootout.
