Chairman of the One Mile Community Development Council, Mr. Vernon Todd, has objected to the decision taken by Mayor and Town Council to allow a vendor at the One Mile Primary School to erect a permanent structure at the entrance to the school.
“This is not a wise decision. The IMC Chairman and Councillors should rethink their decision.”
Parents and residents of the area are disgusted with the attitude of the vendor. One parent who asked not to be named said that the front of the school was never earmarked for vending.
“If, God forbid, a thief should break into the One Mile Nursery School there’s a big shop blocking the view to that school. What goes for one should go for all. She should occupy the back of the school like everyone else.”
Days before the school opened its doors for the new school term, Chief Education Officer, Olato Sam, visited and he told her to desist from building but she ignored the warning. Another resident, Shawn Michaels, voiced his dissatisfaction vociferously.
“Every child entering the school would have to stop by her to buy something. This is a great eyesore and very disrespectful to the community. I was in the school the Thursday before it open and the Chief Education Officer made it clear, personally to her, to desist from building in front of the school.
“This woman made it clear that she was selling there for the past 14 years and no one could make her move. I see this as disrespectful to the community, chairman and Ministry of Education.”
An Executive member of the One Mile Primary PTA said this is high-class lawlessness and a disgrace to the school’s administration and PTA. “She bareface and malicious to do something like this. This woman wasn’t even part of the clearance of the grass and debris in the school. She made it clear when we approach her, that’s Government work, she is a taxpayer. If no one solves this problem we would be forced to take to the streets to have her removed. This problem must end now.”
One councilor of the Mayor and Town Council said that he is unaware of Ms. Wilson getting permission to erect any structure at the entrance of the school.
Parents and residents are asking relevant authorities to look into the matter with urgency.
