Continuing his rise to stardom, Guyana’s Compton Caesar clocked a personal best of 21.38 in 200m qualifying (heat 3 of 4) on Monday, the fifth fastest time in qualifying for the semi finals which will be run today followed by the finals less than two hours after.
Caesar, who had also qualified for the 100m final placing 7th, had also achieved a PB in this event (first round) of 10.60; his finals time was 10.70.
Also competing on Monday was squash players Benjamin Mekdeci who came up against Thomas Da Silva of Gibraltar in the semi-finals of the Plate. Mekdeci won 3-0 (14-12, 11-9, 11-3) which propelled him into the Plate Finals against fellow Caribbean player, Jason Doyle of St. Vincent & The Grenadines.
Playing for the prize of the traditional wooden bowl, Mekdeci lost the first game at 10-12 before taking the second 11-7. Doyle stormed back to win the 3rd game 11-2 before winning the deciding game in a closely fought contest, 12-10 to deny Mekdeci.
Taylor Fernandes and Larissa Wiltshire then took to the courts to face the number one ranked Malaysia in the doubles. The Guyanese pair lost in straight sets 11-3, 11-3.
