Bandits robbed a female Kaieteur News reporter at gunpoint at the corner of Sheriff and William Streets around 02:00 hrs on Sunday.
The young woman was waiting for a taxi when two men on a motorcycle came out of William Street.
This did not alarm her initially as the two men just rode past her. But then they made an about turn and the pillion rider jumped off and walked quickly towards her.
“When he pulled out the gun, he cocked it and walked quickly towards me. He said, ‘Give me ya f***ing bag now.’ But I was so overcome with shock that I didn’t move at all,” the reporter said.
“He then told me to open my mouth and when I did so reluctantly, he shoved the gun into my mouth. I broke down in tears at that point. Then he said, ‘You understand wuh going on girl? I said loose the f***ing bag.’
When I attempted to remove the bag from my shoulder he just ripped it off and returned to the rider who was just a few steps behind me and they rode off.”
Her hand bag contained her media pass, identification card, $26, 000, and an IPhone 5 among other valuables.
The 23-year-old said that as soon as the armed bandits rode off she walked briskly along Sheriff Street and within minutes, caught a taxi and made a report at the Kitty Police Station.
The police there are currently investigating the matter.
