Town Clerk of the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, (M&CC) Royston King is the latest victim of an early morning, home invasion. Kaieteur News understands that the Town Clerk and members of his immediate family were asleep when armed bandits entered at their South Ruimveldt Park residence, at around 2: 00 am yesterday morning.
The gunmen reportedly demanded cash and valuables from members of the family. They managed to escape with a cellular phone and an undisclosed sum of cash.
The Town Clerk confirmed that the thieves carted off items but added that luckily no one was hurt. The intruders reportedly gained access through a window of the two-storey building which is currently being renovated.
Kaieteur News understands that a member of the household (name given) was studying at the time. The teenager recalled that there was a strange figure near the window, and she alerted the rest of her family, who were asleep upstairs.
“She woke us up and we came downstairs and turned on the lights by then one of the men was pointing a gun through the back door and the other one collected a cellular phone and some money that was in a chair,” another member of the household related.
Kaieteur News understands that sections of the house including the window, through which the bandits gained entry were damaged during the break-in.
Three persons have since been held in connection with the robbery. Meanwhile police investigations into the incident are continuing.
