…Shot nine times at Albouystown street party
A man was killed execution style and three others were shot up in what appeared to be a hit carried out by two gunmen outside of the Ghetto Flex night spot at the corner of Albouys and James Streets, Albouystown early Friday morning.
Dead is Senesie Lewis, 22, of Pineapple Street, East Rumveldt. He was riddled with bullets by the killers, and from all indications he appeared to be their main target. When he fell to the ground and raised his head as he gasped for air, one of his shooters walked up to him and shot him repeatedly to ensure that he was dead. The killer was heard declaring, “He disrespectful.”
Lewis was reportedly shot about nine times by the gunmen who had approached on foot and escaped immediately after the execution in a waiting car that was parked on Sussex Street.
Relatives and friends did not hesitate to describe Lewis as a “Bad Man”.
One relative reported that Lewis had a lot of enemies. He would rob anyone, even his family. Others who knew of him said, “He does go to Cayenne and he does rob even thief men like heself.”
Jonathan De Freitas, 20, of Block X Great Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara; Kurt Francis, 16, of 32 Princes Street, Georgetown; and Jamal Bascom, 23, of 277 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown were all hit during the shooting. Many were not surprised that Lewis was killed in this manner.
There are reports that Lewis, who reportedly returned to Guyana from French Guiana (Cayenne) recently, was aware that a “hit” was on his head but he believed that no harm could come to him because he had been given skin protection from Suriname.
According to reports, Lewis was partying at the popular night spot, when word was passed to him that some paranoid looking men were making enquiries about his whereabouts. “Earlier, he spot two of the gunmen who de looking for he and he run and hide in he grandmother yard and was peeping.”
Witnesses said that Lewis had a gun. When the men started to walk away from the regular party scene that had spilled onto the streets, he came out from his hiding place and was on the corner looking for the men. He had stepped out on James Street.
“Then dem bannaz dem turn back, start firing shots like if was the wild west and close he off,” an eyewitness told this newspaper.
Lewis’ riddled body was left lying in the street for more than two hours before it was removed by police and undertakers.
Kaieteur News understands that the killing is being linked to a robbery that took place in Adelaide and Howes Streets just over a month ago during a domino tournament.
One man called “Fat Man” was robbed and shot in the leg on that occasion.
“His name was calling as one of the gunmen who did the robbery at the time,” a source close to the investigation revealed.
A close female relative of the dead man told this newspaper that she knew nothing about Lewis’ activities. “When you die, people say all kinds of things about you.”
Meanwhile residents have expressed concern for their safety with reference to the night spot and have noted that this is not the first person killed outside the location. “Is every Thursday night they does got shooting and violence there… I don’t know why they don’t close down that place.”
Another said, “The people (patrons) does take over and block up the whole street fuh the party. People does come fuh party from all over and the noise, the weed smoking and the vulgarity does be more than ever. Neighbours does live in fear cause is always a fight or shots firing there. This nonsense need to stop plus the party curfew is 2 0’clock, so me ain’t know what happening here.”
Reports are that the injured Bascom is an American. He left home to go to a party at Plaisance Linetop after 20:00 hrs on Thursday and then his family got word of the shooting. They soon realized that he was among those shot. He was shot in his right groin. He came to Guyana for his older brother’s funeral but stayed for the summer.
Kurt Kevin France who was also at the Street Party was shot in his butt while Jonathan Anton De Freitas was shot in the region of his right testicles.
