While it is said that youth is wasted on the young, Andre July, 23, is proving that this adage doesn’t apply to him.
Over the past two years the young police constable has organized an event that falls during the month of emancipation at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
With him in the lead, last year his group presented 40 village elders with hampers as a way of saying thanks for their work to develop the community.
This year, during the three-day event held on Middle Street, the young Presidential Guard and others presented children, aged five to 16 with 140 new school bags as well as other school supplies.
The young man says his group acquired the school supplies through funds raised during the Pouderoyen Village Day. They also received financial support from Minister of State Joseph Harmon, Sandy’s, Amral and Sons Auto-mechanic shop and Cheddi’s Sawmill.
