The Guyana Karate Federation (GKF) yesterday held a Kata and Kumite Karate competition at the YMCA pavilion to commemorate the 30th death anniversary of Guyana’s first Executive President Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.
The tournament catered for all of the seven clubs affiliated to the GKF and was sponsored by the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR). However, GKF President Amir Khouri informed that only five of those clubs were present yesterday.
“We were contacted to host this event and with just one meeting we put everything in place for this. President (David) Granger wanted to be here for the presentation of prizes but it was decided that it would be done at the NSC building on September 11 at 18:30hrs.”
Khouri disclosed that Minister Nicolette Henry who is responsible for Sports was to give the opening address but the Minister failed to show up for yesterday’s tournament which concluded last evening.
The competition commenced with the 6-8 year-old Male and Female Kata and Kumtie and continued with the 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 age groups.
