Instead of enjoying the luxurious comfort of his Campbellville home, 55 year-old Yogeshwar Bisnauth has now been confined to the Camp Street prison after he was jailed for 24 months for stealing a minibus.
Bisnauth, a mechanic by profession, was found guilty yesterday of stealing a ‘Pitbull’ minibus when his trial concluded before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
In addition, he also stole a bottle of oil worth $7000, a box of brake pads worth $7500 and a filter valued $1400 – all totaling $4.7M – property of fellow Mechanic, Dominique Jackson, on April 3, last, at Alexander Village, Georgetown.
The Magistrate found that there was sufficient evidence to tie Bisnauth to the offence and as result he was found guilty as charged.
Police Corporal Sean Gonsalves presented the prosecution’s case and called several witnesses to testify.
When the matter was called on Monday, the Magistrate had informed the court that a Prima facie case was made out against the defendant based on the prosecution’s evidence.
It was then Bisnauth was called on to lead a defence to discredit the prosecution’s case.
At Bisnauth’s first court appearance back in April, he had denied the allegation before former Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was released on $100,000 bail.
