Guyana’s leading Track and Field Championships, Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic will race out of the blocks at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden from 1pm today with several of the Caribbean and Guyana’s top athletes on show.
The two day meet, will see five finals being contested today namely, the 3000m Women, the 5000m Men, the Long Jump Women, the Medley Relays and showpiece 4x100m Men and Women Final.
However, a number of preliminary rounds or Heats will also be contested today in the Men and Women 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres.
The likes of Rupert Perry and Winston George will carry the Guyana flag against the Jamaicans in the men’s international 200m.
The Women’s Long Jump final should be interesting when Natreena Hooper, Cindy
Fraser and Shantoba Bright take their mark.
The second day tomorrow will be the big when Guyana’s best match up against their Caribbean counterparts from Jamaica, Trinidad, Bahamas and the United States.
However, the most interesting race will be the women’s 100m when Jamaican Seidetha Palmer and the Bahamian Petra McDonald, both with personal bests of 11.6s meet. Which Guyanese athlete will spring a surprise is to be seen.
George will go head-to-head against the Jamaicans in the Men’s 400m in another showpiece event on tomorrow.
Meanwhile, The Police Sports Club will be under pressure to defend their overall title against a much improved Guyana Defence Force (GDF) side as well as a unified Linden front.
