Two teenage cousins lost their lives in the wee hours yesterday after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed, destroying a bus shed on the Sparta Public Road.
Rupesh Jadoo, 19, of Reliance, Essequibo Coast, died on the spot while his younger cousin, 13-year-old Bhidesh Mohabir, of Sparta, Essequibo Coast, succumbed while at the Suddie Public Hospital. Both teenagers suffered multiple injuries. The accident reportedly occurred shortly after midnight.
Recounting what happened prior to the accident, Ruvina Mohabir, the sister of Bhidesh, an Anna Regina Secondary School student, told Kaieteur News that her brother, who would have celebrated his fourteenth birthday soon, had left home around 17:00hrs (5 p.m.) on Wednesday, in the company of his older cousin (Jadoo) who had come to pick him up with his silver Toyota Spacio, PSS 8494.
Mohabir said the two teens had gone out to ‘lime’ when they met their deaths. She said she didn’t know what exactly went wrong and how her older cousin, Jadoo, whom she says was the driver, smashed into the bus shed and levelled it.
Meanwhile, according to the police, it was the unlicensed Bhidesh Mohabir, who was driving at the time of the accident.
Investigations are continuing.
The families are awaiting post mortem results before funeral arrangements are finalized.
Earlier this year, two cousins formerly of Henrietta Village were killed after they were struck down on the La Belle Alliance Public road by an errant driver.
