Hospitals in and around the city have been advised to be on the lookout for a bandit who might be seeking medical attention for a gunshot wound, which he reportedly sustained at the hands of a licenced firearm holder during a robbery on Main Street yesterday morning.
The bandit had robbed a female customer of the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated, and was attempting to make good his escape when the licenced firearm holder opened fire on him.
However he and his accomplice managed to ride away from the scene.
Kaieteur News understands that at around 11:00 hours, a woman and her husband went to the GPL Main Street office to conduct business. It is believed that she was being watched, for as soon as she emerged from the GPL compound, the bandit pounced on her and snatched a bag containing about $100,000.
The woman’s husband, who happens to be a licenced firearm holder, saw what was taking place, but waited until the bandit turned to getaway before drawing his weapon and discharging several rounds at him.
The man told police that although the bandit managed to make it on to a waiting Honda CG motorcycle, which was ridden by an accomplice, he was sure that the fleeing man was hit by one of the rounds fired at him, judging from his actions.
A senior police official told this newspaper that after receiving a report, they ensured that all hospitals were alerted to be on the lookout for the suspect, should he try to seek medical attention.
Up to late last night, there were no reports of anyone turning up for treatment of a gunshot wound.
