“It was never my client’s intention to inflict wounds or cause the death of anyone,” said Attorney Leslie Sobers during a bail application for his client, Nigel Fraser, who is charged with attempted murder.
Fraser, 20, of 1418 17th Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), appeared yesterday before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Fraser is accused of inflicting wounds on Brutus Taylor, with the intent to murder him, on August 7, at Golden Grove Housing Scheme, EBD.
He was remanded to prison until August 27, for report.
Attorney Sobers during a lengthy bail application contended that his client never had intentions of inflicting wounds or causing the death of anyone.
Sobers argued that Fraser was merely trying to defend himself since the virtual complainant (VC) held on to his neck and refused to let go.
Further, Sobers explained that the VC attempted to stab the accused to his heart. He added that his client received serious lacerations about his body at the hands of the VC.
The attorney noted that granting his client bail would allow him to defend himself. He added that the accused has a fixed place of abode at the aforementioned address and has no intention of fleeing the jurisdiction.
However, Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones objected to bail citing the gravity of the charge. He pointed out that the VC is still hospitalized and received injuries to his abdomen, which resulted in his lungs being damaged.
The lawyer intervened and informed the court that on the contrary, there have been several sightings of the VC around the community by persons.
The Prosecutor told the court that he has not yet received a medical certificate on behalf of Taylor.
