Wins were recorded by Kings who defeated Bankers Trust Falcons 44-41, Half Mile Bulls stopped Victory Valley Royals 62-45 and Amelia’s Ward Jets flew past Retrieve raiders 47-42 as play in the Linden Amateur basketball Association’s Under 23 championship began last Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court in Linden.
The Kings led at the end of the first quarter 12-7, and were ahead at half time 22-12 and at the end of the third quarter 34-19 before romping home 44-41.
Quincy Easton with 18 points and Akeel Primo 10 led the winners as Mark Persaud was the best shot for Falcons.
In the second game Half Mile Bulls controlled Victory Valley Royals with a 62-45 victory behind Terron Welch’s 21 points as Jamal Bethune got 16 and Dennis Niles 10. Jets flew past Retrieve Raiders 47-42 after leading through the first quarter 13-5, 20-17 and 30-27 before the final score 47-42. The lone player to hit double figures was Amaniki Archibald with 18 points.
The championship will continue tonight when Falcons take on Raiders in the first game at 6.30pm and the other brings together Royals and Block 22 Flames at 8.30pm. The semifinals are set for Friday and the final on Saturday.
