This month the city of Georgetown will experience the ‘Green Space Project’ which aims to inspire members of various communities to maintain a litter-free environment through education and action.
The Guyana Shines Project in collaboration with other groups will be reaching out to various communities.
In a brief interview with Kaieteur News the Co-Project Manager, Dexter Gonsalves, explained that Guyana Shines reaches out to schools and communities to increase awareness of harmful littering and pollution. He added that it also encou
rages individuals to make environmentally-friendly decisions in their own lives and communities.
This programme also aims at encouraging tourism, supporting biodiversity, decreasing poverty, and ensuring clean waterways to prevent widespread flooding and generally improving the quality of life.
The U.S Embassy together with its diplomatic partners including the British High Commission, the Canadian High Commission, the European Union Delegation in Guyana, and civic entities such as Conservation International Guyana, and Youth Challenge Guyana, have been collaborating with the Guyana Shines Project.
This project was launched on June 1, 2014.
The Project Manager said that there will be a two-day workshop and a twenty-four hour clean-up this month end.
