After refusing to stop his car at the behest of two armed men on a motorcycle, Sereste Nievelder, 29, of South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown was shot and injured
According to reports, Nievelder was driving along Camp Street when the men pulled up alongside him and demanded that he “pull over”. However the man refused to do so. Kaieteur News understands that it was then that the pillion rider fired a shot at the moving car, and Nievelder was hit in his right leg. The men then rode away.
Nievelder was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted. Yesterday he spent sometime in the facility’s theatre where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his leg. Up to late yesterday afternoon, he was in the theatre’s recovery area recuperating from his surgery.
The motive for the shooting is yet unknown and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, as the spike in crime continues, an East Coast businessman is now hospitalized after he was shot during the course of a robbery at his Vryheid’s Lust Railway Embankment establishment late Saturday night.
According to police reports, about 20:30hrs on Saturday, two gunmen entered the Wisdom Supermarket and held the 30-year-old owner Haun Hua Kang, at gunpoint.
Reports indicate that the men began making demands for money but the businessman was reluctant to give up the earnings of his business easily. Haun Hua Kang’s resistance angered the impatient bandits who then shot him to his thigh, and secured $100,000 from a cash register before fleeing.
Haun Hua Kang was then rushed to the hospital where he has been admitted. Investigations are ongoing.
