A serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) found himself before the court, yesterday, after charges of forgery and fraud were leveled against him by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCYS).
Band Corps Special Constable, Kevin McDonald, 31, of 41 Public Road, Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, was released on $100,000 bail after he denied the allegations before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on April 10, 2014 with intent to defraud, he forged a receipt dated April 10, 2014, for the sum of $73,000 purporting it to show that it was issued by Universal Machinery to him. The charge contended that he knew that the information on the receipt was false.
The same day he uttered the receipt to an employee of the MCYS, purporting that it was issued to him by Universal Machinery.
Mc Donald is alleged to have forged another receipt dated April 16, 2014, for the sum of $104,300, with intent to defraud.
He purported that it was given to him by Universal Machinery, knowing same to be false.
On the same day, he allegedly uttered the receipt to the MCYS with the intention of defrauding the Ministry as he purported that the receipt was from Universal Machinery.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, asked the court to grant the defendant substantial bail since he had no objections to it being granted.
The offences were allegedly committed while McDonald was employed at the MCYS.
This matter will be heard again on July 30, before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
