Several villages affected by poor water supply on the East Bank of Demerara have been restored with service, the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) announced yesterday.
The Covent Garden water treatment plant had been affected by technical difficulties. According to GWI, it was forced to divert water from the distribution system supplied by its Providence facility into the affected areas. “While water supply has returned to all the affected areas, it is at reduced levels of service.
Technical teams continue to work assiduously to rectify the difficulties occurring at the Covent Garden Water Treatment Plant.”
GWI assured that the redirecting of water from the company’s Providence facility will not affect customers currently served by that facility.
“The company wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all affected customers for their patience during the service disruption. GWI apologizes for any inconvenience caused and wishes to assure that all measures are being taken to restore normal service from the Covent Garden water treatment plant.
“The company is committed to providing updates on any progress made by technical personnel currently working to resolve the difficulties at the Covent Garden facility.”
