Several communities on the East Bank of Demerara are experiencing water supply problems, with the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) yesterday announcing it is working to restore normalcy.
The state entity explained that it is continuing to experience technical difficulties at the Covent Garden Water Treatment Plant.
The problems started early last week and affected several communities including Bagotstown,
Nandy Park, Republic Park, Herstelling, Sections of Great Diamond, Little Diamond, Prospect, Covent Garden, Farm, Providence, Peter’s Hall and Eccles (Old Road).
”Neighbouring communities may also experience reductions in levels of service. GWI Technical Services teams have been working extended hours to restore normal service. The company is currently executing a plan to divert water from the Providence distribution system in order to provide service to affected areas. This will not affect customers currently served by the Providence facility,” GWI said of the measures being put into place.
“The company apologizes for any inconvenience caused and continues to ask for the patience of all customers affected by the service disruption. GWI wishes to assure that Technical Services teams are working in the swiftest manner possible to restore normal service.”
