Police have detained an East La Penitence youth for the stabbing to death of 17-year-old Adonie Pharbo on Saturday night.
The detained teen is said to have been the brother of the individual who had stabbed Pharbo, called ‘Buju’ to death sometime after 19:00 hrs on the West Ruimveldt front road.
According to reports the suspect has told police that he was at the scene but did not partake in the stabbing. He even revealed that his brother is hiding at a West Bank Demerara home which the family had bought.
Two other young men including the victim’s best friend, were also taken into custody for questioning and later released.
When Kaieteur News visited the Freeman Street home yesterday family members dismissed the speculations that that the friend was involved. They said that it was this friend who solicited help to transport the victim to hospital.
Pharbo’s distraught mother explained that he did not have any problem with the young men who aided in his death. She said that it was his elder brother who had an old grievance with the men.
They said it was assumed that the dispute was settled a long time ago.
Kaieteur News was told that during the attack one of the young men who were no more than 20 were heard saying, “Boy me aint went and pray… kill this f@#*&@ boy”.
Kaieteur News understands that the same suspects had attacked Pharbo sometime ago while he was walking with his girlfriend but he managed to escape.
According to initial reports Pharbo, a miner, had moments earlier left the Alexander Village Masjid when he was attacked by three young men.
His best friend arrived at the scene and saw a large crowd, then saw Pharbo gasping for breath.
He was left at the scene for several minutes since vehicle operators refused to transport him to hospital. Someone from the same Masjid eventually arrived with a car and took the injured youth to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
