Jamel Lewis, 32, of 77 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, Georgetown, came face to face with the wrath of the person(s) behind the trigger of the gun(s) which fired some alleged five gunshots at him in what appears to be a failed execution.
According to reports, Lewis was struck twice about the body by bullets, once to his right chest and another to his back.
Kaieteur News understands that Lewis the lone occupant of the bottom flat of the two-storey family home was alerted by strange sounds around 3:57 hours yesterday. Upon investigating, he was greeted by the gunshots.
One relative, who opted to remain anonymous, said that she is not fully aware of what really transpired. She recalled that about 3:57am she and other relatives were awakened by the sound of gunshots and upon looking out they saw Lewis running. Five gunshots were heard.
The relative said that Lewis was shot inside his home and it was unclear how the shooter(s) were able to gain access to his residence.
When asked, it was admitted that Lewis had quite a few brushes with the law in the past. It is unclear what may have led to the early morning shooting.
Lewis is lucky to still be alive after he managed to evade further injuries by running for his life. According to information after running out into the street he was rescued by Police Ranks on patrol, who happened to be in the vicinity at the time. He was then rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical attention.
Up to press time he was still recovering. Investigations are continuing.
