Early yesterday afternoon, a female passenger in a route 42 minibus was given a fight and eventually relieved of her handbag by a gun-wielding bandit who shot the woman before making good his escape. The victim, Sharon Baldeo, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, received a wound to her left leg. The incident occurred around 13:00 hrs.
Kaieteur News was told that the bandit had disembarked from another minibus at Diamond to join the bus which Baldeo was in. He then requested to be let out at the Flour Mill Road, Agricola. While making his way out of the bus he grabbed at Baldeo’s bag.
A struggle ensued during which the man pulled out a firearm and shot the woman, before escaping with a bag that contained a cell phone and $200,000.
According to reports police response was swift and the suspect was subsequently arrested in Agricola. Charges will be instituted shortly.
Up to press time, the conductor and driver of the minibus were said to be assisting the police with information related to the matter.
