The 3rd annual Gaskin Memorial Berbice Sports Awards ceremony organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) is set for Friday July 17 at the St. Francis Community Developers Complex.
Official sponsor of the programme, Sentinel Security Ltd last weekend handed over the sponsorship cheque valued at $100,000. The activity is held in memory of Gregory Gaskin, late Chief Executive Officer of COPS Security.
Three individuals and one organization are rewarded annually – Sportsman, Sportswoman, Sports Personality and Sports Organisation of the Year. Each of the awardees receives a trophy, medal, framed Certificate of Excellence and a collection of gifts.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster informed that the main aims of the Award are to identify sporting heroes of Berbice and to honour them, to inspire more involvement in sports and to provide positive role models for youths.
Foster expressed gratitude to the Management of Sentinel Security, especially Chief Executive Officer Noreen Gaskin for its continued confidence in the RHTY&SC and the role it is playing to make sure that every hero in the Berbice Sports is recognized and honoured.
The club, he noted is quite passionate about honouring heroes as it is very important that people who make a positive difference in the lives of others be recognized when they are alive. The long serving sports executive also expressed disappointment that too many sports organizations are not active in making a difference in the lives of youths, the elderly and less fortunate. Foster threw out a challenge to these organizations to follow in the footsteps of his club.
Human Resources Manager of Sentinel Security, Bromwell Gordon in handing over the cheque stated that his company was pleased to be associated with the RHTY&SC, an organization he described as Guyana’s best.
He also expressed appreciation to the club for the role they are playing to promote the memory of the late Gregory Gaskin, who was an avid promoter of the involvement of youths in sports. Gordon also expressed confidence that the 2015 edition of the Berbice Sports Awards would be well organized and fulfils its objectives.
Members of the general public have until July 6 to submit nominations for the awards via email: foster_hilbert@yahoo,com.
