– Regional Finals for Friday
To commemorate its 10th Anniversary, Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG), the host of the National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF), will for the first time on Saturday, organise a Media Day at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 12pm.
According to a press release from YBG, the forum is to “provide opportunities for school players and media to become familiarised while giving sponsors maximum exposure”. The various finals from the four regional conferences will be played Friday night.
The programme for the Media Day includes the awarding of teams from those finals as well as a photo opportunity with teams. The coaches, leading players and managers of schools will engage the media on their participation in the 2015 tournament.
The nation’s biggest schools basketball competition is encouraging the media to assist in making Saturday’s event a success with their participation. The NSBF will be held next week at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in three age categories.
Meanwhile, St. Roses High School beat Government Technical Institute (GTI) 58-47 to advance to the finals of the Georgetown or City Conference of the NSBF with guard Nathan Saul pouring in 17 points, seven assists, 10 rebounds and five steals. Anfernee Jervis assisted with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Sabastian Luke was the lone standout player for GTI with 16 points and seven rebounds. St. Roses will play Marian Academy, which defeated Bishop’s High 38-27. Dwayne Obermuller scored 10 points while Judah Stephney had eight points and six steals. Liam Fraites pulled down 10 rebounds for Marian.
For Bishop’s, Timothy Thompson scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Daniel Haynes scored13 points with seven rebounds. The four Regional Finals will commence from 4pm on Friday with the East Coast (Country Conference).
Plaisance Secondary will play President’s College in that final while game two features J. C Jandersingh Secondary against New Amsterdam Multilateral in the Ancient or Berbice Finals. In the Big 10 (Linden Conference), Kwakwani Secondary comes up against Linden Technical Institute in the third game while St. Roses and Marian clash in the featured game in the City final Friday night.
Digicel Guyana Inc., Edward B. Beharry and Company Ltd and Banks DIH Ltd. are the sponsors of the 2015 NSBF.
