Specialist were crowned champions when the curtains came down on the Faye Joseph Father’s Day Dominoes competition on Wednesday night last at her residence, Gaulding Place in South Ruimveldt.
Specialist clearly dominated proceedings as the chalked up 84 games to overcome Sparton 70 and TNT 57 in the final. Linden Bowman made the maximum 18 games for the victors while Ken Wall and William Sargeant supported with 17 and 16 respectively.
Leroy Edwards marked 17 and John Chance 16 for the runner-up team, while Dane Bynoe 16, Trevor Smith and Mark Welch with 14 each were TNT’s leading players. Specialist pocketed a trophy and $200,000, Sparton a trophy and $100,000 and TNT a trophy and $50,000.
Special gifts were presented to several fathers that are involved in the sport including the youngest, oldest and with the most children. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Joseph thanked the participating teams and congratulated the finalists. She lauded the players for the high level of discipline exhibited while urging them to prepare for future tournaments.
Meanwhile, the Linden Boston competition will get underway on July 5 at The Garage, Aubrey Baker Road. Entrance fee is $10,000. (Zaheer Mohamed)
