There are a lot of amazing things being seen daily, but for a baby to survive six gunshot wounds,
is beyond amazing – it is miraculous.
Eighteen-month-old Travis Rudder Jr. has left the general public in awe at his survival of the wounds he sustained in the vicious Father’s Day shooting at his home which claimed the life of his father, Travis Rudder Sr. and injured his mother, Mawanza Gill.
The lad was injured in a daring home attack, where his parents’ bedroom was sprayed with bullets and he was struck six times about the body.
Yesterday when Kaieteur News reporter visit the child in the ICU of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) he was very alert and responding to the calls of visitors.
It was an emotional sight when he first opened his eyes to his grandmother, Viola Marshall. She had gently said, “Who is granny baby?” while rubbing his little head.
The opening of his eyes came slowly but surely, causing the grandmother to breakdown in tears as she expressed her love to the child. If not for his little hands being restricted it appeared as if he was ready to reach up for ‘grandma’s’ clutching.
He was also seen responding to other visitors some of whom were just fascinated by his story. One woman after seeing him walked out the ICU in tears. She related that she has a grandchild of the same age and she was truly amazed by the child’s fight for life.
Another visitor was overheard saying, “There is nothing that can justify killing a

one-year- old baby.” Everyone expressed disgust at the incident.
Kaieteur News understands that the child is likely to be transferred into the Paediatric Ward soon.
And his mother is recovering well from her wounds. She said, yesterday, while being flanked by emotional relatives and friends, that she is feeling better although experiencing some pain due to surgery on her legs.
Gill is grateful for the prayers she and her baby have been receiving. She said, “He (baby) is in God’s hands.”
Even as nurses and doctors continue to work around the clock to medically support the lad and his mother back to good health, Game Xpress, yesterday, decided to show a kind gesture.
Yesterday, Brandon Henriques and Eleanor Henriques presented the child’s grandmother with a hamper of baby products for the child.
Gunmen firing semi-automatic pistols through a bedroom window pumped 12 bullets into Travis Rudder, and a few rounds into his wife and baby son, as they slept in their bedroom.
By the time the gunmen’s clips were empty, 26-year-old Rudder lay sprawled and lifeless on his bed, his son Travis Jr. badly wounded, and his reputed wife, Mawanza Gill, bleeding from gunshot wounds to both legs.
