Saturday’s planned 50-over cricket trial in the middle of rainy season was organized to pick female players to represent the Demerara under-19 and senior teams in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Female Inter-County tournaments.
While the male version of the under-19 one-day and three-day tournaments have been completed the senior Inter-County four-day tournament which is being used to pick the National U-19 team for this year’s Regional 50-over competition in Jamaica next month and senior Guyana team for the 2015/2016 four-day First-Class France Franchise tournament scheduled to commence in November was postponed due to the inclement weather.
The 30 females who were invited to yesterday’s trial match were greeted by a waterlogged GYO ground, the only venue capable of hosting cricket in the rainy season, and a sign on the gate of which said ‘notice! No cricket due to rain’ painted in bright red.
