New Amsterdam Warriors turned in a good performance and eked past Fyrish Black Sharks when play continued in the NPG Inter Club Basketball competitions for teams in Berbice at the Fyrish Basketball Court last Sunday evening.
The high intensity game saw both teams undergoing fluctuating fortunes until NA Warriors surged ahead and ended the first quarter with a slim one point lead 20-19. The second quarter was a replica of the first only this time it was Sharks that took the initiative with a similar one point lead, 31-30.
The tide then swayed in favour of the Warriors in the third quarter and they finished that session in the lead, 54-44. The Black Sharks refused to give up and working the court nicely, fought back for all they were worth, but their effort was too little too late and they ended two points adrift to lose 65-67.
The consistent Randy Ceasar with a game high 35 points led the way for The NA Warriors with support from Kelvin Tom (15) and Edmar Semple (10). The main contributors for the Black Sharks were Joel Fraser (30), Linden Joseph (15) and Royel Frankly (7).
The competition continues on Sunday with Smithfield Rockers taking on Ithaca Hardliners at the Ithaca Basketball court from 16:00hrs. The competition is being coordinated by Vibert Garrett.
