Head of Delegation, Ambassador Robert Kopecký, on Thursday met with Guyana’s new Foreign Affairs Minister and Vice President, Carl Greenidge, at his office. There the two discussed a number of issues of mutual
interest between the European Union (EU) and Guyana.
Carl Greenidge worked in Brussels as a delegate to the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries.
Ambassador Kopecký took the opportunity to congratulate Minister Greenidge on his appointment and “to express his gratitude for good cooperation with previous Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.”
Both Guyana and the EU are preparing for the upcoming summit between the European Union and Caribbean and Latin American Countries (CELAC) to be held from June 10 to June 11 in Brussels, Belgium.
“They also confirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation covering the full spectrum of activities ranging from foreign policy to development assistance.”
According to the EU, views were exchanged on some of the main international challenges, EU – CARIFORUM cooperation and some specifics of bilateral relations in the areas of support to the sea defences and broader coastal management, sugar sector, civil society programmes and cultural heritage, among others.
