and also a member of local club (Continental), Geron Williams, will be one of the riders and favorite to compete in this weekend’s 33rd edition of the Independence three-stage Cycle Road Race which starts tomorrow in Berbice.
Williams who competed in the Tour of Sommerville Cycling Series last weekend and who placed second last year to Team Coco’s and Barbados rider Darren Matthews will be looking to go all the way this time around.
His return has been made possible through sponsorship from degree and long time sponsor, De Sinco Trading, distributors of Degree. Williams said that he is grateful to both Degree and De Sinco Trading for making his return home possible and is looking forward to being the top rider come Sunday after the final stage of the event from Linden to the Capital City.
Meanwhile, the best riders in the land are expected to face starter’s orders when the first stage starts at 07:30hrs from Springlands and finishes at New Amsterdam. Stage two gets underway at 14:30hrs from Rosignol, Stelling Road also tomorrow and will conclude on Carifesta Avenue in Georgetown.
The third and final stage will start at 08:00hrs in Linden and finish at Homestretch Avenue on Sunday. Kaieteur Sport was informed that meals and transportation will be provided for the riders while their respective clubs will have to cover the cost for their accommodation.
This year’s race was originally set for May 16 and 17 but was postponed due to the Regional and General Elections.
