Michael Vieira and Colin France won the 60 years, and 55 years and over categories respectively
in the 8th Executive President H.E. David Granger Inauguration Table Tennis Tournament played on Sunday and Tuesday last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Vieira defeated Bruce Vieira 11-8, 11-7 and 11-5 while Colin France defeated Xenophon Goliah 11-5, 11-7, 7-11 and 11-07 to win the respective titles. Joint third place went to Patrick Triumph and Shazam Amzah, who came from Enmore to play in the competition.
France then beat Goliah at 11-3, 11-6 and 11-7 in the 50 years and over final. Joint third place in the category was awarded to Michael Vieira and Gary Pratt.
National Mini Cadet (11 years and under) Champion, Kaysan Ninvalle won the “C” Class Open final after defeating Nicholus Romain 13-11, 9-11, 11-5 and 11-9; joint third place was awarded to Terrence Rausch and Keshon Reece.
In the semi-finals, Rausch lost to Romain 9-11, 11-7, 7-11, 9-11 (1-3) while Ninvalle defeated Reece 12-10, 10-12, 11-7 and 11-8. In the quarterfinals, Rausch defeated Yeudistir Persaud 3-1; Vincente Henry lost to Romain 1-3, Ninvalle defeated Brandon Huston 3-1 and Isaiah Layne lost to Reece 1-3.
In the Last 16, Aneka Phillips lost to Persaud 1-3, Henry defeated Kevin Williams 3-0, Hutson defeated Nevaeh Clarkston 3-0 and Layne defeated Abigale Martin 3-0.
In the “B” Class Open final, Devon Richmond defeated Xenophon Goliah 11-4, 11-3 and 11-5; joint third place went to Priscilla Greaves and Gibran Sarfaraz from Corriverton.
In the semi-final, Goliah beat Greaves 11-4, 11-8 and 11-9 while Richmond defeated Sarfaraz 11-7, 11-8 and 11-7. In the quarterfinals, Goliah defeated Mark Evans 11-9, 11-5 and 11-5 while Terrence Rausch lost to Greaves 11-7, 9-11, 5-11 and 7-11; Richmond defeated Kaysan Ninvalle 11-6, 11-6 and 11-4 and Nicholas Romain lost to Sarfaraz 9-11, 11-8, 11-3 and 12-10.
In the Last 16, Goliah defeated Jaipaul Chanderpaul of Corriverton 3-0, Keshon Reece lost to Mark Evans 3-1, Rausch defeated Trishan Chanderpaul of Corriverton 3-2, Richmond defeated
Brandon Hutson 3-0, Ninvalle defeated Selenas Jackman 3-2, Romain defeated Vishan Harrynauth of Corriverton 3-0 and Samuel Stephens of Corriverton lost to Sarfaraz 3-0.
Michael Vieira, Bruce Vieira, Triumph International and Roraima Airways donated the trophies and cups.
