Bohemia and St. Patrick’s were among the winners when the Berbice zone of the 18th Annual End of Primary School year Al Sport and Tour Promotions Windball competition continued recently at Welfare Centre ground.
Defending Girls champions Bohemia Primary overcame Cumberland by two runs. Batting first, Bohemia scored 39-5. Julie Rose took two wickets for Cumberland who were restricted for 37-4 in reply.
St. Therese’s beat Overwinning by six wickets. Overwinning took first strike and managed 34-3 with Gatesha Daniels scoring 10. St. Therese’s replied with 35-4; Crystal Mohabir took two scalps. The other teams taking part are defending champions St. Alysious, Edinburg, Lochaber and All Saints.
In the boys’ category, St. Patrick’s thumped Cumberland by two runs. St. Patrick’s batted first and posted 38-4. Kavishkar Dhani made 10 as Abdul Ramsammy took 2-12. Cumberland responded with 36-4. Ramsammy scored 10; Vuendra Bissoon claimed 2-10.
St. Therese trounced Lochaber by 10 wickets. Lochaber made 37-3, taking first knock. John Andrew and Ravin Tudoor picked up two wickets each. St. Therese responded with 38-0. J. Andrews cracked 18. Overwinning got the better of All Saints. Overwinning scored 54-3 while All Saints mustered 46-5 in reply.
All Saints hammered St. Aloysius by 32 runs. All Saints rattled up 90-4, batting first. Ezekiel Hamilton led with 29, Deron De Jonge made 20 and Simeon Isaacs 13. Amar Crawford captured 2-4. St. Aloysius got to 58-8 in reply. De Jonge and Nicquan Samuels snared three wickets each.
Sports Officer Alistair Munroe in his address to more than four hundred students along with parents at the opening ceremony spoke of the importance of education and sports.
“This event is one of my biggest programme to date and I know you do look forward to it during the final term of the school year. Play hard and as you prepare to continue your education and I want to be the first to congratulate you on your success,” Monroe added.
“Enjoy every moment win or loose, you are all winners. We must work together and most importantly we must live in one love and unity for we are one people, one nation one destiny,” the organizer posited.
He thanked AL Sport and Tour Promotions for their input.
The tournament is being played across region six within six zones namely, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower, Central and Upper Corentyne and Black Bush Polder.
The competition will also be contested at Wales CC, Uitvlugt CC, Leguan, Wakenaam, Timehri Farm, Enterprise CC, Unity/ Lancaster CC, Bath CC, Fair Field, Welfare Centre, Bush Lot Farm, No. 71 Village, Black Bush Polder, Bayrock and Georgetown.
