Permanent Secretary, (PS) of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Alfred King, has condemned allegations that his ministry was part of the destruction or removal of records, following the results of the 2015 General and Regional Elections.
Last week, reports surfaced that boxes of documents and public records were removed from a number of government agencies.
During a meeting with the media, King related his disapproval of such action occurring within the Ministry. He said that security has been set up to prevent any such criminality from happening.
“Public records and state records are just what they are and any movements or destroying of those records is criminal in nature,” responded King, when asked about specific allegations surrounding the National Sports Commission.
King said that upon hearing those allegations the ministry promptly implemented security measures to guard against the removal or destruction of public records.
“The Ministry has put a number of security measures in place,” related King, “we have stepped up security on monitoring and they have received strict instruction that we don’t want anyone to be moving anything that is of public access or record (out the Ministry),”he added.
According to King, instructions were immediately given to security personnel, on his order, to place locks on the government buildings and ensure that persons were checked when they visited the ministry.
Moreover, the PS stated that ministry staff members have clear instructions to act professionally by President David Granger, especially as it relates to the transition period of the new administration.
